Punjab National Bank has disbursed Rs 157 crore to 1,476 farmers and Self Help Groups across the country so far this fiscal, its MD and CEO Usha Ananthasubramanian said today.

Ananthasubramanian was at Farmers' Training Centre, Shamsher Nagar, Sirhind, to inaugurate Kisan Mela and Agriculture Credit Camp of the bank.

She said the lender has set up two trusts -- PNB Farmers' Welfare Trust and PNB Centenary Rural Development Trust.

The trusts have been established with the basic objective of maximising farmers' welfare and skill development of rural youth and women without any profit motive for the bank, she added.

PNB has set up 11 Farmers' Training Centres (FTCs) in various states, including one at Shamsher Nagar here.

Besides training in agriculture and allied activities, information regarding various credit schemes of the bank is also provided to farmers, rural youth and women, she said.

Dress designing and computer courses, human and animal health check-up camps and exposure visits of farmers are some of the other activities provided free of cost at the FTCs, she added.
