Industrialist Sajjan Jindal denied rape allegations by a Mumbai woman, dismissing the complaint as “false and baseless”.
A statement on behalf of Jindal said, “He is committed to providing full cooperation throughout the investigation. As the investigation is ongoing, we will refrain from commenting further at this stage. We kindly request you to respect the privacy of the family.”
Jindal has been accused of rape in a first information report (FIR) filed at the BKC Police Station in Mumbai. According to the FIR, the complainant and Jindal met during a cricket match abroad, and the alleged incident occurred on January 24, 2022.
The complainant first submitted a written complaint in February this year and then approached the court, which directed the police to register the FIR against Jindal, the chairman and managing director of the JSW Group. Moneycontrol has reviewed a copy of the FIR.
The FIR was filed on December 13, 2023, a day after the court order. Mumbai Police, however, denied any delay in registering the FIR.
Based on the complainant’s statements, Jindal has been booked under Indian Penal Code sections, including 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 376 (rape) and 503 (criminal intimidation).
