Coal India recorded a significant 7.5 percent rise in production, with offtake rising 7.2 percent in May.
According to a press statement released on June 1, coal production reached 64.5 million tonnes (MT), compared to 59.9 MT last year. Coal offtake increased to 68.2 MT from 63.7 MT in this period.
The company also informed that executive director (L&R) Sanjay Khare has stepped down on reaching his retirement age on May 31.
On May 20, the Coal Ministry revealed that India's total coal stockpile, both at pit-heads and in transit to thermal power plants (TPPs), zoomed 25 percent to 147 MT as of May 15, representing a significant increase from the 117 MT recorded last year. The stockpile at TPPs stood at 45 MT, reflecting a remarkable 29 percent surge from 34.83 MT last year.
Coal India Limited boasted of a pithead stock of 85 MT. This figure marks a notable 30 percent rise from the previous year.
