The Prime Minister’s Office will meet Coal Ministry officials and Coal India’s chairman and managing director Narsing Rao to discuss three-year moratorium on fuel supply agreements.

This meeting, headed by Principal Secretary Pulok Chatterjee, aims to discuss the level of penalty to be charged on shortfall of supply.

The government also plans to talk about the requirements for import of coal by CIL to meet its supply pacts, and pool pricing for imported and domestic coal.

The government earlier this year issued a presidential directive to Coal India to sign FSAs with the power producers assuring them of at least 80% of the committed coal delivery.

Also on the agenda is the deallocation of coal blocks allotted to private companies. In April, the government proposed to offer captive coal blocks of private sector companies to Coal India in a bid to help the PSU meet its fuel commitments.
