Many Indian graduates aim to work abroad, particularly in technology and engineering. While opportunities in international markets can be competitive, some students have managed to secure positions directly after completing their studies.

One such graduate is Parshva Jain from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi. In a video posted on Tech Minds Japan’s Instagram page, Jain revealed that he earns approximately 6 to 6.5 million yen per year, which is around Rs 35-38 lakh. He secured the role through campus recruitment after his graduation, when the company visited IIT Mandi for placements.

In the video, Jain outlined his career path, shared insights into industry trends, and offered guidance for those considering jobs overseas.

“Recent trends have mostly been related to AI, also shifting towards hardware, I feel, because of the lack of corresponding infrastructure for it. But overall, it's mostly in the AI and machine learning line. So I did my graduation in Data Science and machine learning sector, and hence, I always wanted to pursue a job in the machine learning field,” he said.

Jain, who works as a Machine Learning Engineer at Rakuten Group in Tokyo, highlighted the difficulties and opportunities for professionals aiming to work in Japan. He pointed out that while landing a job as a fresh graduate can be challenging, prospects improve with experience and networking.

“From what I have heard from people, as a graduate, it's not really that easy or straightforward to get a job in Japan as a lateral hire. But I think for mid-career and senior positions, you can look out for jobs, and you can look for referrals. There are a lot of companies in Japan that give visa sponsorships and have relocation support and are eligible to bring on candidates from abroad,” he explained.

Regarding language requirements, Jain mentioned that proficiency in Japanese is not mandatory but can be helpful for career and daily life in Japan.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Parshva Jain is a machine learning engineer specialising in Generative AI, NLP, and AI-driven product development. He completed his B.Tech in Data Science and Engineering from IIT Mandi in 2023 and currently works as a Machine Learning Engineer at Rakuten Group in Tokyo, Japan.
