Going green: NGT bans diesel cars over 10 yrs in NCR

Further, the government or authorities will regulate entry of vehicles at NCR borders. The National Green Tribunal has also directed authorities in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to submit details of vehicles plying on city roads.


The National Green Tribunal has taken the fight against air pollution in the capital up one notch. Hearing a PIL on the poor air quality in the National Capital Region, the NGT said diesel vehicles that are over ten years old and petrol vehicles over 15 years old will not be allowed to ply in the NCR.


Further, the government or authorities will regulate entry of vehicles at NCR borders. It has also directed authorities in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to submit details of vehicles plying on city roads.


This is not the first order of its kind. NGT had passed similar orders in November last year and March this year.

As part of the order, NGT also made a reference to construction norms here. Citing a few projects in Noida, NGT has sent out a broader warning to realtors and developers here, giving clear directions that if 2010 MoEF environment norms are not complied with, they will face action and construction will be stalled.
