Draft Land Acquisition Norms: Consent procedure in 6 mths
According to the draft rules, consent procedures of land owners for public private partnership (PPP) and private projects will have to be completed within six months.

The Rural Development Ministry today released draft rules of the New Land Acquisition Act that was passed by the parliament in the monsoon session. The rules will be put up for public consultation for a period of 45 days.

For example regarding ‘consent’ – it has to be completed within a period of six months. Even the Social Impact Assessment survey (SIA) process has to be completed within a period of six months.As far as the PPP projects are concerned it will need 70 percent consent from land owners while for private projects, with public purpose will require 80 percent consent.As far as the private companies are concerned they will have to ensure that a representative from the company is there when the consent process is on and the Gram Sabha will have to validate this consent.However, we understand that the rural development ministry will also talk to the industry organisations as well as various state governments before finalising the draft rules.
