ASML, the Netherlands-based maker of advanced chipmaking equipment, is reportedly preparing to open a customer support office in Gujarat’s GIFT City, signalling an early commitment to India’s semiconductor plans, according to an Economic Times report.
Company officials visited the international financial hub recently and conveyed that the proposed office would serve as its initial footprint in the country, as per sources cited in the report.
Moneycontrol could not independently verify the report.
The move aligns with ASML’s growing engagement with Tata Electronics, which is building India’s first commercial semiconductor fabrication facility at Dholera along with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp (PSMC). The project, with an investment estimate of ₹91,000 crore, is scheduled to start chip output by the end of 2026 and is expected to employ more than 20,000 highly skilled workers.
While ASML stopped short of confirming any vendor relationship with Tata Electronics, it acknowledged that it is in the process of creating an India-based support function.
Analysts cited in the report, however, noted that the Dholera facility will initially depend on earlier-generation deep ultraviolet (DUV) tools rather than EUV systems, though ASML remains a strategic supplier given its dominance in lithography technology.
ASML is the world’s only supplier of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment, essential for manufacturing leading-edge chips.
