Karnataka's Minister for Large and Medium Industries, MB Patil, on October 29 unveiled the FMCG manufacturing ecosystem developed by Aequs Infra at the Hubballi cluster.

Speaking at the event, Patil said, “Aequs Infra's Hubballi Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) cluster is set to position Karnataka as a manufacturing sector leader, creating sustainable growth for a diverse range of industry players”

“This milestone marks a key step in Karnataka’s efforts to become a premier destination for manufacturing and industrial investment in India,” said Patil. He said that the initiative would strengthen Karnataka’s role as a leader in the FMCG sector.

A statement from Aequs Infra said that the FMCG manufacturing ecosystem at its Hubballi consumer goods cluster aims to establish North Karnataka as a strategic hub for FMCG manufacturing for both domestic and export markets. “The ecosystem will enhance production scale and efficiency of manufacturing units, enabling them to better target export markets. Aequs Infra is optimistic about the ecosystem's potential, as manufacturers within a 400-kilometer radius represent over 35% of India’s market share,” the statement read.

K Ullas Kamath, chairman of FICCI Karnataka State Council and chairman of the Vision Group for the FMCG Cluster, Dharwad, said: “The Hubballi-Dharwad region is the most attractive investment destination for industries, offering skilled talent, educational institutions, and excellent connectivity by rail, road, and air. This region has immense potential to emerge as a major manufacturing hub. The FMCG cluster will create vital infrastructure, support social upliftment, and provide thousands of jobs for youth in North Karnataka."

Vikram Annappa, managing director of Aequs Infra, said: “This ecosystem aligns with our broader goal of transforming the region into a global manufacturing hub. Our commitment is to develop world-class infrastructure that meets global standards, allowing businesses to operate efficiently and sustainably in India. With this project’s launch, we’re laying the foundation for long-term growth, supporting the government's mission for regional development.”

Patil highlighted the FMCG sector’s essential role in driving India’s economy, citing its significant GDP contribution and extensive job creation across the supply chain. “Karnataka aims to expand beyond its established sectors like aerospace, pharmaceuticals, and technology. The Hubballi FMCG ecosystem will support both large corporations and SMEs, creating a sustainable growth model for a variety of industry players,” he said.

Patil underlined the state’s commitment to pro-business policies, streamlined approvals, and investor-friendly initiatives, all of which contribute to Karnataka’s reputation as one of India’s top destinations for ease of doing business.
