  • 2026 groomswear trends: quiet luxury, rich fabrics, and craftsmanship.
  • Bandhagalas and sherwanis favored for versatility over single-use attire.
  • Modern groom's style: muted colors, textured fabrics, minimal accessories

Indian wedding market has often focused on the bridal trousseau, but for 2026 the grooms wear is getting equal attention. As we see a strong shift away from overt shine and excess, grooms are choosing richness that comes from fabric, craftsmanship and proportion. For the grooms wear, the trend has shifted from heavy embellishment and high-shine finishes to something far more nuanced — quiet luxury with depth. Perhaps, the new age groom isn’t looking to outshine the bride but isn’t shying away from the spotlight too.

Thoughtful, practical, and style-conscious

The modern Indian groom wants outfits that feel effortless, not costume-like. He wants pieces that can move seamlessly from mehendi to cocktail, from wedding rituals to post-wedding dinners. According to designer Amit Behki, “Build a versatile wardrobe rather than one-time outfits — a well-made bandhagala, for instance, can be worn with a kurta-churidar for a traditional function, paired with trousers for a cocktail, or styled minimally for a formal evening. Invest in fitted jackets, detachable lapels, stoles and even interchangeable elements that allow the same base outfit to evolve across functions. Keep the modularity in mind, so a groom can change the mood of the outfit without changing the soul of it.” Clothing is no longer just for the wedding album but an investment in a long-term personal wardrobe.

Must-have pieces for the 2026 groom

A strong wardrobe begins with three essentials: a classic sherwani, a refined bandhagala, and a sharply tailored tuxedo or black suit. These form the foundation of a wardrobe that extends well beyond the wedding festivities, believes the designer. For 2026, silhouettes will lean cleaner and more architectural. Expect well-structured sherwanis that sit close to the body, sharply cut bandhgalas with subtle design details, and relaxed-yet-polished kurtas that prioritise comfort without losing presence. Tailoring will matter more than ornamentation.

Colour palettes remain timeless but more sophisticated. Shades like ivory, ecru, champagne, forest green, deep maroon, and antique gold will continue to dominate — but with softer undertones and matte finishes replacing overt sheen. These tones photograph beautifully, feel elegant in person, and age well over time. Fabrics like handwoven silks, silk blends, fine wool-silk mixes, and textured textiles that hold structure will be preferred over overly glossy or synthetic materials. Texture will replace embellishment as the new form of luxury.

Styling that makes it personal

What truly distinguishes a groom in 2026 isn’t how heavy his outfit is, but how well it’s styled. Behki advises, “Accessories should never overpower the groom but complete the look. Footwear must be elegant and proportionate, stoles should be styled thoughtfully rather than just added, and jewellery should be minimal but meaningful. One accessory I consider non-negotiable is the turban. A groom becomes a king only once in his lifetime, and the turban defines that transformation. A hand-draped turban, crafted with precision on the wedding day, has an unmatched presence.” Small choices carry immense impact like how a stole is draped, whether a jacket is worn open or closed, how the buttons are fastened, or how footwear complements the silhouette.
