Beauty products: From hydration to make-up, why sunscreen is a must for your daily skincare routine

Sunscreen is important through the year. But summer and sunscreen are like two peas in a pod. It is a crucial skincare product as it does more than just save you from sunburn. From skin hydration to makeup fusion, they’re redefining what beauty-conscious consumers expect from their SPF.

In the past, the main reason for using a sunscreen was to protect the skin from harmful UV rays. However, today skincare has evolved, and so has sunscreen, says Aashka Goradia Goble, Co-founder and CMO of Renee Cosmetics. “Sunscreen is not just a skincare product anymore. It has revamped itself as a make-up product. Since more and more people are becoming aware of skincare and makeup, when they pick a product they want more than just sun safety. They want glowing skin, fewer steps in their routines, and products that multitask like they do,” she says.

New-gen sunscreens are infused with powerhouse ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerine, which help combat the dryness and dullness caused by sun exposure. Owing to trends like K-beauty, formulations are becoming featherlight, non-greasy, and glow-inducing, making sunscreen a beauty product in its own right.

Goradia shares reasons why sunscreen can be your new skincare BFF:

  • Hydrates and heals: Ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerine lock in moisture and prevent sun-induced dryness, making SPF part of your hydration game.

  • Boosts your glow: Forget the chalky white cast, today’s sunscreens are designed to leave behind a dewy, radiant finish that enhances your natural skin tone.

  • Simplifies your makeup routine: Tinted sunscreens offer lightweight coverage that blurs imperfections while protecting your skin, two steps in one.
