Although becoming parents can be a rewarding life milestone for a couple, getting pregnant can also be a difficult process for many. Around the world, a large percentage of couples struggle with infertility, and several health conditions that can make it difficult to become pregnant. Knowing about these prevalent medical issues is essential for individuals who are having trouble getting pregnant. Common health issues that can interfere with your ability to conceive according to Doctor Sowjanya Aggarwal, Director - Obs & Gynae (Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery) Infertility & IVF, Max Hospital, Vaishali are:

Obesity

A higher body mass index (BMI) is a symptom of obesity, which has a substantial impact on fertility. Hormonal abnormalities and anovulation (lack of ovulation) might result from being overweight. Furthermore, obesity is linked to diseases like diabetes and hypertension, both of which can make conception more difficult. Reproductive success and general health can be improved by eating right and exercising to maintain a healthy weight.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

A frequent hormonal condition affecting women who are fertile is PCOS. It is distinguished by erratic menstrual cycles because ovulation is absent, which prevents healthy egg production. These abnormalities can lead to infertility in women with PCOS. Treatments for inducing ovulation, medicine to regulate menstrual cycles, and lifestyle changes are commonly used in the management of PCOS.

Endometriosis

In endometriosis, a chronic inflammatory disease, tissue resembling the lining of the uterus grows outside of it, resulting in pelvic adhesions and cysts. This interferes with egg fertilization and upsets the natural anatomy. In comparison to the overall healthy population, endometriosis might also result in decreased egg quality. Hormone therapy, pain management, and surgical excision of endometrial tissue are available forms of treatment.

Uterine Fibroids

Benign tumours called uterine fibroids are frequently observed in females. Fibroids can induce infertility by clogging the fallopian tubes, changing the uterine shape, or preventing the implantation of an embryo, depending on their size and location. Medication to reduce the size of the fibroids or surgery to remove them may be part of the treatment.

Ovarian Cysts

Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can form on the ovaries. While many cysts are harmless and resolve on their own, some can cause complications such as pain, irregular menstrual cycles, and infertility. Monitoring and managing ovarian cysts through medical intervention can help mitigate their impact on fertility.

Hypothyroidism

Insufficient production of hormones by the thyroid gland, which are essential for controlling the body's metabolism, is known as Hypothyroidism. An imbalance in hormones can lead to issues with ovulation and infertility. Restoring fertility can be achieved by controlling Hypothyroidism with the right medication and keeping an eye on thyroid function.
