  • Certain food combos like milk with citrus or salt may cause digestive issues
  • Combining fruits with meals or milk with vegetables can lead to bloating and gas
  • Poor food combinations may reduce nutrient absorption and worsen gut health

When it comes to a healthy diet, the foods we consume play an important role. While ensuring they are nutritious is one thing, another is to avoid combining some of them, as they can trigger digestive issues. Nutritionist Kiran Kukreja shared 7 such food combinations, which, as per Ayurveda, cause health problems you’d want to avoid.

In her new post on Instagram, Kiran shared how certain foods when combined can disturb digestion over time. They can cause gas and bloating, fermentation in the gut, disturbed gut health, skin flare-ups, and more. They also interfere with nutrient absorption, doing no good to your overall health.

Avoid these food combinations

Milk with citrus fruits

While they benefit alone, combining them may not be a good idea. Sour fruits like oranges and grapes are acidic and curdle milk inside the stomach. This can lead to indigestion, gas and bloating. They may also cause skin issues over time.

Fruits with meals

Fruits pack a punch of nutritional benefits, but when eaten along with meals, they can cause digestive issues. Fruits digest faster than cooked meals, leading to fermentation, bloating, and acidity.

Milk with salt

As per Ayurveda, it is not a compatible combination. Milk has a cooling effect while salt has a heating effect. Their opposite nature disturbs digestion and may cause skin issues and weak digestion (Agni imbalance).

Vegetables with milk

Combining one heavy food item with another may not be wise. Vegetables and milk are hard to digest and may lead to gas, AMA (toxin) formation and sluggish digestion.

Curd with milk

Curd is sour and heating while milk is sweet and cooling. Combining them can overload digestion and may cause excess mucus and poor gut health. Avoid them together to prevent heaviness, discomfort, and bloating.

Yoghurt and melon

Again, yoghurt is slow and heavy while melons digest very fast and are water-rich. Combining them leads to fermentation in the stomach, which triggers gut health problems.

Milk and fish

This combination may contribute to skin disorders, inflammation, and poor digestion. Milk has a cooling effect while fish is heating. This makes them incompatible and disturbs digestion. When eaten repeatedly, they can cause an imbalance and affect health.
