In the human body, inflammation provides natural defence to the body. It has an advantage in injury and infection prevention. However, when inflammation becomes chronic, it starts affecting immunity, digestion, sleep, and mental clarity.
Stress, irregular breathing, poor posture, and emotional tension often contribute to this imbalance.
That’s where yoga steps in to address the root causes by calming the nervous system, improving circulation, and restoring internal rhythm. Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar, author, columnist and founder of Akshar Yoga Kendraa, tells Moneycontrol, “By practising yoga regularly, the body is given the opportunity to release accumulated stress and move out of the inflammatory process in a sustainable and peaceful way.”

According to Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar, the poses in yoga and meditation are referred to as Mudras and symbolically mean the hand. Each finger represents an element, and when the fingers are placed in specific ways, they influence energy flow within the body. Mudras support the immune system by enhancing circulation, reducing stress responses, and improving focus and breath awareness. Unlike intense exercises, mudras can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age or physical ability.
Pranam Mudra is known for activating life energy. By gently touching the thumb with the ring and little fingers, this mudra boosts immunity and reduces fatigue. It helps rejuvenate the body and restore balance.

Apana Mudra helps with body cleansing. It regulates digestion and elimination, which are essential for reducing internal inflammation. When toxins are efficiently eliminated, the immune system functions more smoothly. The mudra also encourages stability and grounding, promoting both physical and emotional balance.
Mental stress contributes to inflammation. Gyan Mudra, formed by joining the thumb and index finger, improves focus and calms the mind. When the mind becomes steady, stress hormones reduce, allowing the immune system to recover. This mudra is often practiced during meditation to bring clarity and inner peace.
Surya Mudra stimulates metabolism and body heat. It balances digestive fire and hence neutralises heaviness and sluggishness in the body. A normal metabolism helps maintain immunity by ensuring adequate absorption of nutrients and proper energy circulation.
Practising these 4 mudras just for a few minutes daily can be life changing. It will help reduce inflammation and strengthen immunity. These can be performed while sitting quietly, during meditation, or even while resting.
