Shashi Kapoor was one of the finest actors in Bollywood. He was the star whose smile and style made girls swoon, and heroines often got nervous and couldn't even speak their dialogues properly in front of him.
Shashi Kapoor and Shatrughan Sinha worked together in films like Aaj Ka Goonda Raj, Kranti, Ilzaam, and Shan.
Both were known for their playful banter and small tiffs on set.
SHASHI KAPOOR AND SHATRUGHAN SINHA FILMS
Actor Shatrughan Sinha recalled a humorous yet unforgettable moment from his earlier days in the industry when his co-star, Shashi Kapoor, once chased him with a belt because of his frequent lateness to the set.
Although Shatrughan’s punctuality was questionable, he always made up for it by mastering his lines quickly and delivering his scenes efficiently.

His talent and ability to complete his takes in a single shot often made up for the delays, much to the relief of the filmmakers. Shatrughan’s professionalism and sharp memory meant that despite his late arrivals, he could still finish his work ahead of schedule, proving that talent and efficiency always triumphed over the occasional tardiness.
The actor explained that his tardiness was the result of his dedication to doing yoga every morning, which took up a significant amount of time.
SHATRUGHAN SINHA USED TO ARRIVE LATE ON SET
In an interview with Times of India, Shatrughan recalled the day when his delayed arrival left Shashi fuming. However, instead of apologising, Shatrughan jokingly lightened the mood. He said, “Once, Shashi had come after me with a belt to hit me for coming late. I told him they had cast him because of his punctuality and me for my talent. He went, 'Dekho, how shamelessly he says that'.” He continued, “It was all in good humour, obviously. Shashi and I had a great camaraderie.”

Shatrughan further explained the reason behind his constant tardiness, revealing that he was very particular about doing an hour of yoga each morning before heading to the set.
“I didn’t go late deliberately. I was just very particular about doing a round of yoga before leaving for work, which took time, so I was invariably late. I would sometimes report around 12 noon, maybe even 12:30 pm, for a 9 am shift," he said.
However, he always made up for it with his sharp memory and one-take ability. "I had a very sharp memory; still do. So, I would read my lines and finish my takes in one go. That way we could finish even before time. I was a one-take artiste. If another take was required on an odd occasion, I would tweak it slightly so that the filmmaker had the option to choose the better one," he explained.

This efficiency was why producers repeatedly worked with Shatrughan, including Manmohan Desai and Harmesh Malhotra, with whom he did multiple films.
"No producer could ever blame me for a film’s delay, which explains how I have done 10-11 films with Manmohan Desai and 13 films with Harmesh Malhotra. Why else would these producers repeat me?" he said.
Shatrughan also revealed that he was offered iconic films like Sholay, Deewar, Satte Pe Satta, and Achanak, showcasing his versatility and the trust filmmakers had in his talent.
