When Prabhas talked about competition with contemporaries

While it’s common for actors to feel a sense of insecurity about box office numbers, many assumed that Prabhas, the South Indian superstar, was above such concerns. However, the actor recently opened up about the competition he faces with other leading figures like Ram Charan and Allu Arjun, offering a glimpse into the realities of his career.

South Indian cinema is widely known for its collaborative and supportive environment, where actors frequently work together and the industry as a whole is regarded as a united front. This close-knit atmosphere has led to the perception that competition among actors is minimal, with most stars working in harmony rather than rivalry.

In a 2022 interview with DNA, Prabhas was asked about the competition in terms of box office numbers between him, Ram Charan, and Allu Arjun—three of the biggest names in pan-Indian cinema.

While these actors are known for their major contributions to the film industry, Prabhas did not shy away from acknowledging that competition, although understated, does exist.

He explained that competition is an inherent part of any business, and the film industry is no exception. However, he pointed out that while rivalry has always been present, the level of exposure and visibility has significantly increased in recent times.

Prabhas stated, "Every business has competition, but another part if you take... As I’ve said, now you will see a lot of Indian films; it was always there. Now, the exposure is more."

Prabhas further emphasised that rather than focusing on the competition, he prefers to focus on fostering collaboration within Indian cinema, specifically between the North and South. His vision is to create an environment where actors from all regions come together to produce films that represent the collective strength of the entire country’s film industry.

Despite being at the height of his career, Prabhas has managed to keep his feet firmly on the ground. He has earned widespread admiration not just for his acting but for his humility and grounded nature.

A notable example of this humility was shared during his appearance on the talk show Koffee With Karan in 2018, where he joined fellow actor Rana Daggubati and filmmaker SS Rajamouli. In that episode, Prabhas recounted an incident that happened after the release of Baahubali.

He shared how, despite promising Rajamouli that the entire Baahubali team would be together to celebrate the film’s success on release day, he was unable to keep his word. His reason? He felt an overwhelming sense of nervousness and backed out at the last moment, showing his vulnerability despite his massive success.

On the work front, Prabhas continues to dominate the box office. His recent film Kalki 2898 AD was a success, and he has several exciting projects lined up. Among these are Salaar: Part 2—Shouryanga Parvam and The Raja Saab, ensuring that the actor’s star power continues to shine brightly in the coming years.
