Govinda, one of the most beloved and versatile stars of the '90s, delivered countless hits with his unmatched comic timing in films like Coolie No. 1, Raja Babu, Partner, Bhagam Bhag, and Dulhe Raja.

Interestingly, at the peak of his career, Govinda was offered the 1999 hit Biwi No. 1, which was written with him in mind by director David Dhawan but the actor reportedly turned it down.

Biwi No. 1 starred Sushmita Sen and Karisma Kapoor as the leading ladies. As per several reports cited by Bollywood Shaadis, Govinda refused to do the film as he was unwilling to work with Sushmita Sen.

However, this decision of his cost him a lot in her successful career which was at a high point during that time.

Salman Khan ultimately played the part that Govinda was originally supposed to play, and Biwi No. 1 became a huge hit after it was released. In addition to earning Rs 41.6 crores globally on a Rs 12 crore budget, the movie greatly advanced Salman Khan's career.

Govinda's career, meanwhile, started to deteriorate. He only had a few hits after 1999, and the majority of his films were box office failures or underwhelming. His once-thriving Bollywood career consequently began to fade.

There were also rumours floating around about the alleged tiff between Govinda and David Dhawan. In addition, the actor-director team has worked together on 17 films, such as Hero No. 1, Coolie No. 1, Raja Babu, Partner, Deewana Mastana, and numerous others. Govinda was once angry with David Dhawan, even though they were one of the most successful pairs. As per reports, Govinda was upset when David started working with other actors, such as Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt.

Reports suggest that Govinda and David Dhawan’s long-standing collaboration hit a rough patch after their 2009 film Do Not Disturb. Tensions reportedly arose when Govinda claimed he had suggested the idea for Chashme Baddoor back in 2009, but Dhawan chose to cast Rishi Kapoor instead. In a 2015 interview, Govinda confirmed that he had intentionally distanced himself from the filmmaker, hinting at unresolved differences between the once-iconic duo.
