A day after announcing his retirement from Test cricket, Virat Kohli, accompanied by his wife Anushka Sharma, sought spiritual solace in Vrindavan. The couple visited the revered spiritual guru, Premanand Ji Maharaj, on the morning of May 13 (Tuesday), signaling a moment of introspection and faith following an emotional milestone in Kohli’s cricketing journey.

In a video shared by ANI, Kohli and Anushka were seen arriving in Vrindavan in a local cab, wearing face masks and dressed in simple, modest attire.

The couple has long been associated with Premanand Ji Maharaj’s spiritual teachings and are known to attend his satsangs regularly. They have previously visited him along with their children, Vamika and Akaay, underlining their deep-rooted spiritual beliefs and connection to Vrindavan.

Sources close to the ashram revealed that during the visit, the couple had an extended conversation with the Maharaj, centered around the concepts of Prem (divine love), Punya (righteous deeds), and Prabhu (the divine). A devotee present at the ashram shared, “Virat and Anushka listened intently as Maharaj ji spoke about the importance of inner peace, selfless love, and surrendering to the divine will. It was a very grounding interaction.”

The visit came on the heels of Kohli’s heartfelt announcement on Instagram, where he officially retired from Test cricket after a career spanning 14 years. In his post, the cricketer reflected on the significance of the longest format of the game in shaping his personality and career.

“It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket,” Kohli wrote. “Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life… I’m walking away with a heart full of gratitude — for the game, for the people I shared the field with, and for every single person who made me feel seen along the way.”

Virat Kohli’s spiritual retreat seemed to echo the sentiments of his farewell note — one of humility, gratitude, and acceptance. In many ways, the visit to Premanand Ji Maharaj appeared to be more than just a religious stop; it was a continuation of Kohli’s search for balance between the worldly highs of his cricketing career and the inner calm offered by faith.
