When Aishwarya Rai’s accident on the sets of Khakee left Amitabh Bachchan deeply worried

During the 2003 filming of Khakee near Nashik, starring Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan, and Akshay Kumar, a frightening accident occurred that left the cast and crew shaken.

A stuntman lost control of a speeding car, which skidded and crashed directly into Aishwarya's chair. Both Aishwarya and co-star Tusshar Kapoor were caught off guard by the unexpected collision.

Akshay Kumar quickly intervened, pulling the car away and rushing Aishwarya to the hospital, where her injuries were treated. The incident left everyone on set deeply disturbed.

Amitabh Bachchan, who would later become Aishwarya's father-in-law following her marriage to his son Abhishek Bachchan, was particularly upset by how the media downplayed the severity of the accident. The press labeled her injuries as minor, which irked Amitabh Bachchan.

In an interview with Rediff, he expressed his frustration, describing the gravity of the situation and his deep concern for Aishwarya. He said, "I asked Aishwarya’s mother if she wanted to take her daughter back to Mumbai. We organised Anil Ambani’s private plane. Since there is no night landing facility in Nashik, we had to take permission from Delhi to land the plane at the military base which is 45 minutes away from the hospital. The seats had to be removed from the aircraft. And everyone is brushing it off as a small incident blown out of proportion." Despite these efforts, the media continued to trivialize the incident.

Recalling the traumatic event, Amitabh Bachchan shared how Aishwarya's injuries deeply affected him, leaving him sleepless for two nights. "I witnessed the accident firsthand," he said. "Her back was pierced by cactus thorns, the bone in her foot was broken, and she suffered severe cuts. Yet, the media brushed it off as trivial."
