Television actor Tanmay Vekaria, popularly known as Bagha from Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has recently reflected on the rumours of him quitting the Sab TV show. He admitted that the idea of leaving the show is simply unimaginable.
In a candid conversation with Filmigyan, Tanmay shared, “I can't even dream of quitting Tarak Mehta. There was a phase before I got Tarak and after I was doing a show which eventually was scrapped by the channel.”
He added, “I had gone for 4 months in between wherein I didn't have any work. So I was planning to quit the industry. I was planning to take up a job, a 9 to 5 job. In that phase, I might have thought of opting for another job and I might have thought of quitting acting. In Tarak, nothing like this ever happened that I had to think of quitting.”
Tanmay also recalled in the same interview that his career took a turn for the better after joining the long-running sitcom. Before landing Taarak Mehta, Tanmay went through a rough patch.
He shared, “There was a phase before I got Taarak when I was doing a show that eventually got scrapped by the channel. I had gone without work for four months. At that time, I was planning to quit the industry altogether and take up a 9-to-5 job,” he said. “In that phase, I might have thought of quitting acting. But in Taarak, nothing like this ever happened that made me think of leaving.”
He joined the show as a cameo role turned into a career-defining character. He expressed, “It feels really good. I feel blessed to be part of a show where I initially just did cameos. It’s been almost 15 years since Bagha was introduced, and being part of a history-making show that has been loved for 17 years is truly special.”
When asked if he ever thought about refusing the role back then, Tanmay admitted, “Well, there was no question of refusing. But yes, if I had thought that I should wait for something better, I wouldn’t have been sitting here today. All thanks to God that He had something so good planned for me and helped me take the decision to play Bagha.”
