Season 5 of Stranger Things has officially entered Netflix’s all-time record books. Following the release of its series finale on New Year’s Eve, the final season has become the platform’s No. 9 most popular English-language series ever, amassing a massive 105.7 million views so far.
Netflix measures its all-time rankings by counting total views accrued during a title’s first 91 days of availability. For batched releases like Stranger Things 5, that window applies separately to each volume. Volume 1, which debuted on November 26, will continue accumulating views until February 24. Volume 2’s three episodes are being counted from December 25 through March 25, while the finale, released on December 31, will be measured through March 31. That staggered timeline gives the season several more months to climb even higher on the global chart.
With its current No. 9 position, Stranger Things 5 has already knocked Fool Me Once off the list and surpassed Season 1 of The Night Agent. The show’s previous outing, Season 4, remains firmly at No. 3 with 140.7 million views, trailing only Wednesday Season 1 at 252.1 million views and Adolescence at 142.6 million.
The momentum behind the final season has been undeniable from the start. Stranger Things 5 delivered Netflix’s biggest-ever opening for an English-language series, pulling in 59.6 million views in its debut week. Given that explosive start and the remaining eligibility window, industry watchers believe it is not impossible for the sci-fi phenomenon to challenge the very top of the chart.
Unsurprisingly, Stranger Things 5 was the most-watched title worldwide during the week of December 29 to January 4, a period when the finale had been available for just five days. During that week alone, the season clocked 31.5 million views. Netflix did not break out viewership for the finale episode specifically, though weekly totals were likely tempered by the unusual decision to release the finale simultaneously in movie theaters, where it reportedly earned over $25 million at the box office.
The finale’s release also reignited interest in the entire franchise. All four previous seasons continued to chart for a sixth consecutive week, with Season 1 ranking No. 3, followed by Season 2 at No. 5, Season 3 at No. 7, and Season 4 at No. 8. Few series have demonstrated such sustained, full-catalog engagement.
Beyond Stranger Things, Netflix’s Top 10 for the same week featured Harlan Coben’s “Run Away” debuting at No. 2, while Season 5 of Emily in Paris held strong at No. 4. Comedy specials from Ricky Gervais and Dave Chappelle also secured spots, rounding out a chart dominated by returning franchises and proven audience favorites.
As Stranger Things takes its final bow, the numbers suggest that its farewell season may still have a few records left to break.
