Angus MacInnes, renowned for his roles in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (1977) and Rogue One (2016), passed away on December 23, 2024, at the age of 77, as confirmed by his family.
His family shared the news on Facebook which read, "To all Angus’ fans around the world, with breaking hearts we write this: Angus MacInnes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and actor died on 23rd of December 2024. He left us peacefully, surrounded by his family and love." Although the reason of his death has not been revealed yet.
“For Angus, the fans of Star Wars held a special place in his heart. He loved meeting you at conventions, hearing your stories, and sharing in your passion for the saga. He was continually humbled, delighted, and honored by the admiration and passion of the fans and convention community,” the statement further read.
MacInnes’ career spanned several decades, with some of his most notable roles set within the Star Wars universe. He is best remembered for portraying Gold Leader/Jon “Dutch” Vander in George Lucas’ iconic 1977 film Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. MacInnes later reprised this role in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, directed by Gareth Edwards, further cementing his legacy within the beloved franchise.
MacInnes’ debuted with 1975’s Rollerball. His diverse acting filmography included roles in The Littlest Hobo, Space: 1999, Outland, Witness, Hellbound: Hellraiser II, Sleepers, Roughnecks, Judge Dredd, Space Island One, Eyes Wide Shut, Formula 51, Hellboy, The Black Dahlia, Vikings, and Captain Phillips. He also appeared in Atlantic City and Half Moon Street, showcasing his talent across a wide range of genres and projects.
