Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the director known for helming intense dramas like Kabir Singh and Animal, is back in the spotlight with his upcoming film Spirit, starring Prabhas. The film has been generating significant buzz ever since its announcement, but recent updates have turned more heads than usual. According to reports, Spirit will now feature bold scenes and has officially been tagged as an A-rated film.
The film was initially launched with Deepika Padukone set to play the female lead opposite Prabhas. However, creative disagreements between the actress and the director reportedly led to a reshuffling in the cast. A source close to the production revealed, “There were several discussions regarding the tone of the intimate scenes. Deepika and Sandeep couldn’t align on the execution, and they eventually decided to part ways amicably.”
Rising star Triptii Dimri, who gained massive recognition with her role in Animal, has now stepped into the lead role. A recent Pinkvilla report stated, “Although Spirit carries the flavour of a traditional Telugu mass entertainer, Sandeep is adding his signature twist – intensely violent action scenes and bold, emotionally charged moments between the leads.”
Both Triptii and Prabhas are said to be fully on board with the bold content. The source further added, “Sandeep Reddy Vanga wanted to cast an actress who would be comfortable with the sequences written on paper. He has promised a comfortable and professional atmosphere on the sets amidst the shoot to Triptii.”
Interestingly, it was these very sequences that became a sticking point with Deepika earlier. “Sandeep and Deepika had even discussed toning down some of the more intimate scenes during narration sessions,” shared the insider. “But when compromises started affecting the core vision of the film, they chose to walk away respectfully.”

Scheduled to begin filming in October 2025, Spirit is envisioned as a grand “Pan World” cinematic experience, aiming for release in nine languages. Adding to the film’s global ambition, negotiations are underway with South Korean star Ma Dong-seok, best known for Train to Busan, for a pivotal role.
With a release date set for 2027, Spirit is already being hailed as one of Indian cinema’s most eagerly anticipated films, alongside SS Rajamouli’s next with Mahesh Babu.
