There was a time when Salman Khan was as famous for his nightlife as he was for his blockbuster films. Long before social media, paparazzi culture, and smartphones turned celebrity moments into instant viral clips, Salman had already built a reputation as Bollywood’s ultimate party animal.
Stories from that era continue to surface, reminding fans of a phase when the superstar lived large and treated even larger.
One such incident was recently recalled by blogger and digital creator Malini Agarwal, popularly known as MissMalini. Speaking on the YouTube channel InControversial Podcast, Malini shared a memorable night from the early 2000s when Salman walked into a Mumbai nightclub and turned an ordinary weekday evening into a full-blown celebration.
Recalling the moment, Malini said she and her friends were at a club called China House on a random Tuesday night. It was around 2:15 am when the lights came on, signaling closing time. “We thought the club was shutting, so we were paying the bill and walking out,” she said. Just as they were about to leave, the atmosphere suddenly changed.
“The lights dimmed again, the music came back on, and we were like, ‘What happened?’ And Salman Khan has walked in,” Malini recalled. What followed, she said, was a complete shift in the energy of the place. “As soon as Salman walked in, the vibe of the place changed. It just turned into a party.”
According to Malini, Salman didn’t just make a dramatic entry. He made a generous one. “He said, ‘Take everyone’s credit cards back. I am paying for everyone,’” she recalled, adding that he then began handing out bottles of champagne to guests across the club. The gesture, spontaneous and extravagant, left a lasting impression on everyone present that night.
Malini also pointed out how different the moment would have looked in today’s digital age. “This was before smartphones. I had a little Kodak camera with me,” she said. She managed to click a few photographs, though she admits they were far from perfect. “There’s a series of pictures of us looking at him, the back of his head, us pointing at him, him turning around looking confused, and then us with a bottle of champagne. This would have been a video today, but back then it was just four very badly taken Kodak shots.”
While Salman Khan has long since stepped away from his party-animal image, stories like these continue to shape the mythology around him. Today, he remains one of the biggest stars of Indian cinema, with fans eagerly awaiting his upcoming projects despite mixed responses to his recent releases.
Moments like this, shared years later through personal recollections rather than viral clips, offer a glimpse into a time when celebrity generosity lived quietly in memory, not on timelines.
