In a bold and emotional comeback, YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, popularly known as BeerBiceps, opened up about the much-talked-about controversy surrounding his show India’s Got Latent. Addressing the issue in the first episode of his new podcast, Allahbadia sat down with Buddhist monk Palga Rinpoche for a conversation that was not just about the fallout but also about self-reflection, forgiveness, and growth.
The controversy began when Ranveer posed a sexually explicit question to a contestant on comedian Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent, asking, “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join in once to make it stop forever?” The remark sparked intense backlash across social media and led to widespread outrage.
In his comeback episode, Ranveer didn’t shy away from acknowledging the situation. He candidly spoke about the emotional toll the controversy took on him and how it forced him to confront harsh truths about people he once trusted. Speaking with monk Rinpoche, whom he referred to as his “mentor,” Ranveer revealed how the incident exposed the “real faces” of many people in his life.
He reflected, “He said he saw the ‘real faces’ of those who called him friend once, but didn’t stand by him during the entire case.”
In a deeply resonant moment, he quoted in Hindi:
“Aksar jab aisi cheezein hoti hain zindagi mein, toh logo ke asli characters dikh jaate hain aur aksar log kahege, ‘Haan, unn rishtedaaro ka character dikh gaya jo log fake friends the unka character dikh gaya.’ Par iske saath saath bohot logo ko acche characters bhi dikh jaate hain.”
[Translation: “Often, when such things happen in life, people’s true characters are revealed. And many will say, ‘Yes, we saw the true colors of those relatives, and the fake friends showed their real selves.’ But along with that, many also get to see the good in people.”]
Allahbadia admitted the experience made him take a step back and examine not only his relationships but also his own life choices. He was especially struck by the unexpected kindness of strangers. “There were even some people I had never met or spoken to in my life, yet they stepped forward and helped me,” he said.
He added in Hindi,
“Jo actual kareebi ke dost hain voh saare mere liye the. They were all present. Bohot saare mentors aaye. Kuch kuch aise log hain jinse main kabhi zindagi main mila bhi nahi hoon, baat bhi nahi hui hai. Unn logo ne saamne se karke madad kari.”
[Translation: “The friends who are truly close to me were all there for me. Many mentors showed up as well. Some people I had never met or spoken to in my life stepped forward and helped me.”]
Ranveer also shared how the period of backlash led him to deep self-reflection. Though some advised him to take a long break, he chose a different path.
“Ab tak ki reflection hai. Kuch log yeh bhi keh rahe hain ki ek saal, do saal break lelo content se aur reflect karo kyuki aapke saath itna bura hua toh shayad ek long-term series of mistakes thi aapki.”
[Translation: “This is my reflection so far. Some people are saying, ’Take a break from content for a year or two and reflect,’ because if something this bad happened to you, maybe it was a long-term series of mistakes on your part.”]
But for Ranveer, taking a break wasn’t the answer. Instead, he chose to rebuild by doubling down on his efforts.
“But, wahi main maangta hoon ki yaha tak main action aur mehnat se pohocha hoon. Agar is daldal se nikalna bhi hai toh voh bhi actions and mehnat se hoga, I think. Aur 1000 log 1000 alag tarah ki advice de rahe hain.”
[Translation: “But the way I see it, I got here through action and hard work. And if I have to get out of this mess, it will also be through action and hard work. And right now, a thousand people are giving me a thousand different kinds of advice.”]
He emphasized that the entire phase has been an opportunity to grow—not just professionally but personally. His decision to start afresh with a new podcast is symbolic of this transformation. In fact, while announcing the launch of his new show, Ranveer described it as his “re-birth.”
