Priya Sachdev remembers late husband Sunjay Kapur on her birthday, says, "cannot celebrate my life when I have lost the love of my life"

Priya Sachdev Kapur’s birthday this year arrived wrapped in silence, memory, and an absence she is still learning to live with. For the first time, she marked the day without her husband, businessman Sunjay Kapur, whose sudden death earlier this year left a void that words can barely contain.

Taking to Instagram Stories, Priya shared a deeply emotional note that laid bare the weight of the day. Birthdays, once filled with warmth and celebration, have now become reminders of what she has lost. Along with her message, she posted a screenshot of an old birthday wish written by Sunjay, a note overflowing with affection, gratitude, and love. In it, he spoke of partnership, family, and the life they had built together, calling her the heart of their home and his forever partner.

Reflecting on those memories, Priya admitted how difficult it was to face the day without him. “Today is a hard day for me,” she wrote. “I always looked forward to my birthday cards and wishes from you. They were filled with your love, affection and appreciation for me. I cannot celebrate my life when I have lost the love of my life.”

Her words captured not only grief, but the ache of losing everyday rituals that once made life feel complete. The absence of a familiar message, a handwritten note, or a shared moment turned what should have been a joyful occasion into one of quiet mourning.

Yet, amid the sorrow, Priya also found comfort in the presence of their children, who became her emotional anchor on the day. She shared that her son Azarias made her a birthday card, while her daughter Safira stayed up until midnight to wish her. These small gestures, she wrote, carried echoes of Sunjay’s love and reminded her that his presence continues to live on through them.

“In the smallest moments, I feel you close,” Priya shared. “Through the children, I see the same love and appreciation you had for me and I know you are still here with us.”

Sunjay Kapur passed away on June 12, 2025, after collapsing while playing polo in London. His sudden demise sent shockwaves through business, social, and corporate circles. The chairman of Sona Comstar, Sunjay was widely respected for his leadership and global business vision. His last rites were held on June 19 at the Lodhi Road Cremation Ground in South Delhi, attended by close family members and friends.

Sunjay was previously married to actor Karisma Kapoor, with whom he had two children, Samaira and Kiaan. After their divorce in 2016, he married Priya Sachdev. The couple welcomed their son Azarias, while Priya’s daughter Safira is from her earlier marriage to hotelier Vikram Chatwal.

While legal proceedings related to Sunjay Kapur’s multibillion-dollar estate are currently underway, involving his children from both marriages, Priya’s birthday post reflected a far more personal reality. For her, celebrations have given way to remembrance, shaped by a love that, though lost, continues to breathe through memories and the quiet strength of her children.
