In a major development in the ongoing legal battle over late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s estate, the Delhi High Court has allowed a forensic inspection of his will, which is at the centre of a heated inheritance dispute involving members of his family.

The court’s order, passed on 26 February 2026, permits Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor’s children — Samaira and Kiaan — and Sunjay’s mother, Rani Kapur, to examine the original will on 10 March 2026 in the presence of authorised counsel and forensic experts. The document is currently kept in a sealed cover with the court registry, and the inspection will take place under strict conditions that no photographs or copies may be made during the review process.

Priya Kapur had opposed the forensic inspection in earlier proceedings, contending that such scrutiny should form part of the evidence stage and questioning whether the registrar had the jurisdiction to allow pre-trial inspection of a sealed will. However, the court’s registrar rejected these objections, noting that the plaintiffs and Rani Kapur have a legal right to inspect the original will under the applicable rules. If Priya’s counsel fails to attend the March 10 inspection, the court has ruled that the review may proceed in their absence.

The dispute began after Sunjay Kapur — a businessman and former chairman of auto parts firm Sona BLW Precision Forging — passed away in June 2025, leaving behind significant assets reportedly worth around Rs 30,000 crore. His alleged will, submitted to the High Court in September 2025, has been challenged by Karisma’s children and Rani Kapur, who have raised questions about its authenticity and genuineness, including claims that it may have been forged by Priya Sachdev Kapur, Sunjay’s third wife. They argue that forensic and handwriting examination of the original document is crucial to ascertain whether it truly reflects Sunjay’s intentions.

The inspection is expected to be a pivotal moment in the Kapur family inheritance battle, as the outcome could significantly influence how the estate is ultimately distributed. With both sides preparing legal strategies ahead of the forensic review, attention is now focused on what experts might uncover when the sealed will is finally examined.
