Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav has received a significant legal reprieve after the Delhi High Court granted him interim bail in a long-running cheque bounce case involving an alleged Rs 9 crore debt. The actor, who had been in Tihar Jail, was released on the condition that he deposited Rs 1.5 crore with the complainant, a step that helped secure his temporary freedom until the next hearing on March 18, 2026.
Following the court’s decision, Rajpal’s brother expressed a mix of relief and optimism, telling media that “our good days are yet to come” and that the family remains hopeful about a positive resolution of the legal battle.
He said in Hindi, “Humme kissi se koi shikayat nahi nahi hai.. Jo bhi din the woh humare din the, ab humare ache din aane wale hain. Abhi bas yehi kahenge.” When he was asked further about the court case he replied, “Yeh sab bhaisaab hi batenge.”
The cheque bounce dispute traces back to financial troubles allegedly arising from unpaid dues related to loan and settlement obligations dating to Rajpal’s earlier work and production ventures. Over time, the amount in question escalated, eventually leading to criminal proceedings under the Negotiable Instruments Act for dishonoured payments. After previous directives from the high court, Rajpal had surrendered to authorities in early February, serving time before the interim bail was granted.
The interim bail allows the 57-year-old actor to step out of jail temporarily and address personal commitments, including family events, while still complying with legal requirements such as being present physically or virtually during future hearings.
During the hearing, the court directed Rajpal to deposit Rs 1.5 crore by 3 PM.The bail was officially granted only after the legal counsel for the complainant, M/S Murli Projects, confirmed that the amount had been successfully credited to the company’s bank account against the outstanding bounced cheque. In addition to the deposit, the actor was required to furnish a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh and provide one surety.
