Actor Rajpal Yadav, who is currently lodged in Tihar Jail, had his bail plea heard at the Delhi High Court this afternoon (16 February). The actor remains in custody in connection with a cheque bounce case.

During the proceedings, Rajpal Yadav’s counsel informed the court that they were prepared to deposit Rs 1.5 crore without any conditions through a Fixed Deposit Receipt (FDR).

However, Justice Sharma clarified that the amount must be submitted through a Demand Draft (DD) instead.

The High Court took note of the payments already made in the matter. It observed that Rs 25 lakh has been deposited via DD in the name of the respondents, while an additional Rs 75 lakh DD had previously been submitted by the actor.

The remaining Rs 1.5 crore is yet to be paid. The court granted time until 3 PM today for Rajpal Yadav’s lawyer to submit the Rs 1.5 crore Demand Draft to secure interim bail.

The judge stated that if the amount is furnished by the stipulated time, Rajpal Yadav would be released on bail.

Failing that, the matter would be taken up again tomorrow morning. The hearing has been adjourned until 3 PM today.

According to Press Trust of India (PTI), during the February 12 hearing in the Rs 9 crore cheque bounce case, the Delhi High Court expressed strong displeasure with the actor. The court remarked that Rajpal Yadav was in jail because he had failed to honor earlier commitments regarding repayment of the dues.

The bench observed that despite providing assurances and appearing before the court on multiple occasions, he did not make the promised payments. As a result of non-compliance with the court’s directions, the High Court adjourned the bail plea and stated that he must first complete the surrender process and serve the sentence previously imposed in the case.

I’m not able to give names or figures at this stage.”

The case continues to unfold as the court awaits submission of the remaining amount, which will determine whether the actor secures interim bail.
