The mortal remains of singer-actor Prashant Tamang, best known for winning Indian Idol Season 3 and for his recent acting turn in Paatal Lok 2, were brought to Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri on Monday morning. Tamang passed away on Sunday at his Delhi residence, leaving fans and well-wishers across the country in deep shock.
Several prominent figures gathered at the airport to pay their final respects, including Darjeeling BJP MP Raju Bista. Members of the entertainment fraternity and local representatives were also present as the body arrived amid emotional scenes.
After arrival in Siliguri, Tamang’s mortal remains are set to be taken to Darjeeling, his hometown, for further rituals. A public viewing has been scheduled at Chowrasta, one of the town’s most iconic landmarks, allowing fans and locals to offer their last respects. His final rites will be performed in Darjeeling in the presence of family members and villagers, according to Gorkha Shaheed Sewa Samiti National President Andrew Gurung.
Speaking to ANI, Raju Bista expressed grief over Tamang’s untimely death and highlighted his cultural impact. “It is a great loss for us. Prashant Tamang did a great job with his singing and his talent as an artist. He united the Gorkha people through his work. We will always be indebted to him. The entire country stands with his family during this difficult time,” the MP said, adding that Tamang leaves behind a young daughter and his wife, who works with Air India.
Prashant Tamang, who hailed from Darjeeling in West Bengal, was found unresponsive at his Delhi home and was declared brought dead at Mata Chanan Devi Hospital. Confirming the details, ADCP South-West Delhi Abhimanyu Poswal told ANI that an MLC was received around 3:10 pm, following which an investigation officer visited the hospital and completed the necessary formalities. Authorities stated that the postmortem examination would help determine the exact cause of death.
Beyond his musical journey, Tamang had successfully transitioned into acting, earning praise for his role in Paatal Lok 2. He was also expected to be seen in Salman Khan’s upcoming film Battle of Galwan. His wife, Martha Aley, later addressed speculation around his passing, clarifying that it was a natural death and that he passed away peacefully in his sleep.
