The Rajasthan government has announced strict steps to tackle dowry harassment linked to LPG cylinders. Under the proposed rule, families may face surveillance in cases where a woman is harassed for bringing a gas cylinder as dowry. Officials said that if such complaints are confirmed, the supply of LPG cylinders to that household may be stopped. The government also warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found demanding dowry.

Authorities also said they will monitor the distribution of domestic LPG cylinders to ensure fair supply. As part of this effort, officials will track the delivery of one cylinder per family within a month.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Police have urged people not to spread rumours about a shortage of LPG cylinders. In a post on social media platform X, the police said the supply of domestic gas cylinders is continuing normally and asked citizens not to panic or share unverified information.

The rumours came amid reports of a possible LPG shortage in the country due to tensions related to the Iran–Israel conflict and the involvement of the United States. Following these claims, cases of black marketing have started surfacing in different areas.

After a similar case in Hapur in Uttar Pradesh, another instance of LPG black marketing was reported in Baran district of Rajasthan. Acting on the information, the district supply department carried out inspections at several hotels, restaurants and factories on Friday.

The post quickly went viral on social media, with many users appreciating the police for clarifying the situation and taking a strong stand against misinformation.

One user wrote, “This is a strong step. Dowry demands should be punished strictly.”

Another commented, “Good decision by the government. This will help protect women from harassment.”

A third user said, “Cutting LPG supply for dowry harassment is a bold move. More such actions are needed.”
