Bollywood and music industry conversations are buzzing after acclaimed singer Arijit Singh surprised fans by announcing that he will no longer take on new assignments as a playback singer — a move that many have described as the end of an era in Indian cinema. Reacting to the news, actor Adarsh Gourav — known for his critically praised performances in The White Tiger and other films — publicly supported Arijit’s decision, praising the singer’s authenticity and artistic integrity.

Reacting to the news, actor Adarsh Gaurav said, "I just feel like he's the most authentic artist that I know because he doesn't really care about being in the news or being relevant."

"He's somebody who just comes, does his job, and then goes back to Murshidabad and roams around on his Activa," Adarsh continued, pointing to Arijit's deliberate distance from the glamour of the industry.

"Even if Ed Sheeran has to come and meet him, he has to come to Murshidabad," the actor said.

Arijit’s announcement on January 27, 2026, took many by surprise as he has been one of Bollywood’s most sought-after voices for more than a decade. In his social media message, Arijit thanked his listeners for their support over the years and said he will not be taking on new playback projects, describing his journey as “wonderful.” While he did not disclose all the reasons behind the decision, reports suggest that the singer plans to focus on his own creative pursuits, including independent music and possibly other ventures outside traditional film playback.

The reaction from the industry has been mixed but largely respectful. Some artists, like filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj, called Arijit’s departure from playback singing “unfair” and expressed disappointment at losing his voice from future film soundtracks. Others, including singer Palash Sen, have publicly expressed understanding, comparing Arijit’s choice to similar turning points in their own careers.

Fans too are reacting strongly, with many expressing shock and sadness over the news on social media platforms, while others are optimistic about Arijit’s potential future projects as an independent artist.
