Maharaja's opening day performance at the box office was remarkably strong. The action-packed thriller, featuring Vijay Sethupathi, secured the third-highest opening of the year within the Tamil cinema market, raking in a commendable Rs 4.50 crore net, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. This film marks the 50th milestone in Sethupathi’s illustrious career and also includes Anurag Kashyap in its cast.

Garnering mostly positive reviews upon release, the film's reception has significantly contributed to its box office success. Directed by Nithilan Saminathan, Maharaja did not receive a pan-India release, having a limited presence in the northern regions with no Hindi dubbed version available. The film was released in Tamil and Telugu.

Per Sacnilk's early estimates, "Maharaja" earned Rs 7.25 crore on its second day, bringing its total collection to Rs 11.95 crore, after an initial day one earning of Rs 4.7 crore.

The film's ensemble cast also features Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhirami, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Manikandan, Singampuli, and Bharathiraja.

In an interview with OTTplay, Vijay Sethupathi shared his experiences of feeling burnout after extensive work on multiple films. He mentioned, "There are times you feel stuck in a rut. Things might not go as planned on set due to misunderstandings or long schedules. When your personal life conflicts with your work scenes, you might want to step away. But unlike regular jobs, taking a day off isn't an option in films. Movies are expensive ventures and often can't proceed without you. Commitment is key, as any delay could result in significant financial losses."

In terms of recent projects, Vijay Sethupathi was last seen in Sriram Raghavan's 'Merry Christmas,' co-starring Katrina Kaif. The film was released in both Hindi and Tamil, featuring different supporting actors for each version. The Hindi version included Sanjay Kapoor, Vinay Pathak, Pratima Kannan, and Tinnu Anand, while the Tamil version starred Radhika Sarathkumar, Shamugaraja, Kevin Jay Babu, and Rajesh Williams in corresponding roles. The movie also introduced a child actor, Pari, and featured cameo appearances by Ashwini Kalsekar and Radhika Apte.
