Sofía Vergara received a special gift on her birthday

Modern Family actor Sofía Vergara has recently turned 53, and to mark the day, she has been immortalised with a giant statue in her hometown of Barranquilla. Mayor Alejandro Char unveiled the statue on the actor’s birthday, honouring her work.

Sofía took to her Instagram and shared a series of photos of the statue while expressing gratitude for the love she received from her hometown. She penned in the caption in Spanish, “Thank you my beautiful Barranquilla for this gift!”

The actress expressed disbelief with the huge tribute and added, “I never imagined that my history, my work and my dreams would leave such a significant mark on this earth that I love, respect and long for so much. I thank Barranquilla for everything I am.”

Sofía continued, “I owe all that I have accomplished to the strength, the willpower, and the joy I breathe on this earth. This statue is not only in my honor, but in honor of the Barranquillero people and in honor of my family and friends who have always been with me. I love them so much! Toty [heart emoji] 🇨🇴.”

According to Latin Times, the statue was made by Yino Márquez. The statue reportedly took seven months and required 35 people, including students from the District School of Arts, directed by the sculptor, to create it. The 5.2-foot, 5-ton artwork stands proudly on Barranquilla's Gran Malecón.

The local artist is also known for creating Barranquilla's famous Shakira statue. He has also paid tribute to other Colombian icons with public monuments, including Joe Arroyo, Pacho Galán, and Esther Forero.

Meanwhile, Sofía celebrated her birthday on the Italian island of Sardinia surrounded by her friends and family.
