Miss England 2024, Milla Magee has been in the headlines for several reasons but this time it is reportedly because she has quit the Miss World pageant being held in Hyderabad, India this year.
At the current Miss World pageant in Telangana, Hyderabad, Milla Magee, who was competing on behalf of the United Kingdom, made headlines when she decided to withdraw from the competition for personal reasons. She is the first Miss England winner to resign in the pageant's 74-year history, making her abrupt withdrawal a historic first.
The reason Milla provided during her emotional retreat is what has really astounded a lot of people. She was extremely disappointed, saying she "felt like a prostitute" and that the pageant organisers had "farmed her out for entertainment." Her charges have sparked a lot of discussion about how contestants are treated behind the scenes.
In an interview with the Sun Magazine, Milla stated, "We weren’t there to entertain wealthy men who help the government."
Milla explained that after an incident in which she claims she was forced to parade in front of wealthy male sponsors, she made the decision to leave in order to 'defend her own dignity and self-respect'. She described the entire experience as degrading and exploitative.
She also said, "I went there to make a difference, but we had to sit like performing monkeys."
She didn’t hold back in her criticism of the event, describing the format of the show as “outdated.” She also revealed that some of the 109 finalists had been labelled as “boring,” further underscoring a culture of judgement that she found deeply troubling.
Her departure from the pageant took place earlier this week on May 16, 2025. Following her exit, she was promptly replaced by another contestant from the United Kingdom to continue in the competition.
