Amid the grief and outrage following the death of popular Odia playback singer Humane Sagar, his manager has issued a strong rebuttal to allegations made by the singer’s mother, Shefali Suna. Earlier, Shefali had accused the manager and certain event organisers of forcing her son to perform despite his poor health, claiming that he was pressured into stage shows even when he was in no condition to work.
Responding to these charges, the manager dismissed the accusations outright, stating that there was no exploitation, and instead highlighted what he described as the singer’s own negligence regarding his medical treatment. According to him, Humane’s health issues—particularly related to his liver—had already been addressed by doctors well before the current crisis.
“Humane Sagar’s liver ailment was cured. However, he didn’t take medicines properly and neglected his health,” the manager said, firmly denying any wrongdoing. His comments, reported by Odishatv, were the first detailed response from the management side since the allegations surfaced.
He maintained that at no point was Humane pressured into performing. Instead, he suggested that the singer’s declining health stemmed from irregular medication and a lack of adherence to medical advice. The manager added that several attempts were made to encourage Humane to prioritise his well-being, but these warnings reportedly went unheeded.
The statement stands in stark contrast to the version shared by Shefali Suna, who claimed that her son was “used” and made to perform even when seriously ill. She alleged that the stress of frequent shows, combined with his medical condition, contributed to his collapse and eventual passing at AIIMS Bhubaneswar after over 72 hours on advanced life support.
With the two sides presenting conflicting narratives, the controversy surrounding the singer’s final months continues to widen. Fans, who are still coming to terms with the loss of one of Odisha’s most loved voices, have taken to social media demanding clarity and accountability. Many are calling for a transparent investigation to establish whether negligence, pressure, or mismanagement played a role in the tragedy.
