Boong — written and directed by Lakshmipriya Devi — became the first Indian film to secure the BAFTA in the Children’s & Family Film category, surpassing strong international contenders and bringing global visibility to regional storytelling. The film’s narrative centres on the emotional journey of a young boy and has been celebrated for its heartfelt portrayal of family bonds and cultural depth, resonating with audiences across borders.
Producers such as Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, Vikesh Bhutani and others involved with the project also responded warmly to the prime minister’s praise. Farhaan took to social media to thank PM for his words of encouragement. He wrote, "Thank you Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji for your words of appreciation."
The BAFTA win has triggered celebrations both nationally and within Manipur, with political leaders, film industry veterans and cultural organisations lauding the achievement and noting its potential to open new opportunities for regional cinema internationally. Boong’s accolade is being seen as a testament to India’s diverse storytelling talent and its growing footprint in global film honours.
