The ongoing dispute between Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment and Ranveer Singh over the much-anticipated film Don 3 has taken a new turn, with the Producers Guild of India advising both parties to pursue resolution through legal channels rather than industry mediation. The suggestion comes after months of unresolved disagreements that have stalled progress on the project.

According to a report in Variety India, “As an organisation, the Producers Guild of India can intervene only to a certain extent. With both parties standing firm, the guild members advised them to involve their legal teams and resolve the matter through the proper legal route," a source revealed.

The source added, “Ranveer is not agreeing to pay that amount because he bears no financial liability for the losses. He was willing to pay a certain amount just as a gesture of goodwill, which Farhan didn’t agree to."

The controversy erupted after Ranveer Singh — initially announced as the lead for Don 3 under the direction of Farhan Akhtar — reportedly exited the film following creative differences and scheduling issues. Excel Entertainment, co-headed by Farhan and producer Ritesh Sidhwani, has since claimed that Ranveer’s departure caused substantial financial losses, including pre-production expenses that the studio says total around Rs 40 crore. The production house reportedly sought compensation from the actor to recoup these losses.

Efforts by industry figures to mediate the conflict have been ongoing, with a reported meeting of senior producers and studio heads — including Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala, Ektaa Kapoor, Zoya Akhtar and Punit Goenka — at the residence of actor Aamir Khan in Mumbai to explore possible solutions. However, neither side has relented, with both Excel and Ranveer’s representatives maintaining firm positions on the issue.

The Don 3 project has remained in limbo since Ranveer’s departure, with no confirmed casting or production schedule announced following the dispute. Fans had initially been excited when the actor was revealed as the new lead, succeeding previous industry icons in the franchise, but those plans have since stalled amid this financial and creative clash.
