The first look and motion poster of actor Taapsee Pannu’s upcoming courtroom drama Assi has been unveiled, setting the tone for one of Bollywood’s most anticipated releases this year. The film, directed by Anubhav Sinha, marks another collaboration between the duo following critically acclaimed projects such as Mulk and Thappad, and promises a compelling narrative built around justice and social realities.
The motion poster offers striking visuals: a young woman is seen running desperately along a railway track as a group of men pursue her, immediately conveying urgency and intensity. Intercut with these scenes is Taapsee Pannu’s powerful presence, her face smeared with ink as she steps into the frame as a lawyer determined to stand up for justice. The promotional material carries the tagline “An Urgent Watch,” reflecting the film’s thematic focus on confronting uncomfortable truths rather than turning away from them.
Taapsee shared the motion poster on her Instagram, captioning it with a line that plays on courtroom drama and theatrical excitement: She wrote: “It’s been long… Long since we normalised this….See you in court….I mean the theatres… #Assi - an urgent watch, only in cinemas from 20th Feb.”
This marks her latest major outing after her last theatrical appearance in Khel Khel Mein (2024). The film assembly also includes acclaimed performers Kani Kusruti, Revathy, Manoj Pahwa, Kumud Mishra, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub and veterans like Naseeruddin Shah, Supriya Pathak and Seema Pahwa in key roles, promising depth and nuance across the ensemble.
Assi is produced under the banners of Benaras Mediaworks and T-Series, with Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Anubhav Sinha as producers. The promotional rollout, which began with enigmatic text posters days before the motion poster release, has built significant intrigue by emphasising writing and narrative urgency — even spotlighting the writer as the most highly paid crew member in early promotional material, signalling the creative priorities behind the project.
