Alwar Lok Sabha elections 2024: Voting date, results, candidates, main parties and schedule unveiled

A Yadav community stronghold, Alwar, one of the Lok Sabha constituencies in Rajasthan, votes on 19 April, in Phase I of the 2024 General Elections. Votes will be counted and results declared on 4 June 2024.

The Alwar constituency is home to eight Vidhan Sabha constituencies - Tijara, Kishangarh, Mundawar, Behror, Alwar Rural (SC), Alwar Urban, Ramgarh and Rajgarh.

Historically, Alwar has lent towards the Indian National Congress which has won this constituency 10 times. The Bharatiya Janata Party has won it thrice with the Janata Party, the Indian Lok Dal and an Independent candidate winning once each.

The past two elections in 2014 and 2019 saw the BJP emerge victorious from Alwar. In 2019, the BJP’s Balak Nath won with an impressive count of 1,060,201 votes against Bhanwar Jitendra Singh who secured 1,30,230 votes. Mahant Chand Nath of the BJP had won against Congress leader Bhanwar Jitendra Singh in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

In the 2024 General Elections, Bhupender Yadav, the Union Cabinet Minister of Labour and Employment, Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the National General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party, is the BJP’s candidate from Alwar.

Alwar will witness a Yadav vs Yadav battle as the Congress Party’s sitting MLA Lalit Yadav challenges the BJP stalwart. Lalit Yadav started his political journey with the BSP but moved to the Congress soon after. In the Rajasthan Assembly elections held in 2023, Lalit Yadav won the Mundawar seat with the highest margin in Alwar. At 34, Lalit Yadav is young and enjoys strong grassroots connect.

The BJP is blamed for not doing enough to improve Alwar which has remained backward, despite the promises by two BJP MPs in 2014 and 2019.

Bhupender Yadav, regarded by many as an outsider, will have to prove his mettle in the anti-incumbency wave, something that Lalit Yadav is hoping to ride victorious on.
