Amritsar man identified as Tejpal Singh was recruited by the Russian Army when he went to Russia on a tourist visa, hoping to find a job there. It is learnt that he was killed in March in the country's conflict with Ukraine. Tejpal's mother urged the government to provide a job for his widow and to honour her son as a martyr.
While the EC has maintained that its processes adhere to the law, the Congress’ decision to form EAGLE reflects on a growing distrust in the electoral machinery.
‘Freebies’ are a counter to the conventional mobilization around caste blocs, which upended national politics after the release of Mandal Commission report. However, freebies raise questions about fiscal sustainability and the trade-offs involved for economic performance. As Delhi continues to set a precedent, the debate over the merits and demerits of freebies versus caste politics is likely to shape the future of Indian democracy
If the BJP, with NDA partners like the Apni Party and People’s Conference, can form the government in J&K, that will be seen as a mandate in favour of the revocation of Article 370
Congress and BJP strategies revolve around political mobilisation anchored by Jats and OBCs respectively. Also, high profile crime, unemployment and inflation will have a bearing
The real test lies not in television debates or press statements but on the ground—will Gandhi’s gambit strike a chord with voters, or will it fade into yet another episode of political shadowboxing remains to be seen

The Punjab Lok Sabha Elections 2024 are scheduled to be held in a single phase on June 1, 2024. This phase will cover all 13 constituencies in the state.
The results of the Punjab Lok Sabha Elections 2024 will be declared on June 4, 2024. On this day, the counting of votes will commence, and the final results are expected to be announced by the end of the day. This declaration will reveal the winners of all constituencies in Punjab and will significantly shape the overall outcome of the national elections.
The Punjab Lok Sabha Election Exit Poll Results 2024 will be declared on June 1, 2024, immediately after the conclusion of the final phase of voting. These exit polls, conducted by various agencies and media houses, provide an early indication of the possible outcomes based on voter surveys conducted at polling stations.
Punjab has a total of 13 Lok Sabha seats. These constituencies are crucial for any party or coalition aiming to secure a majority in the Lok Sabha, given Punjab's significant contribution to the total number of parliamentary seats.
Key candidates in the Punjab Lok Sabha Elections 2024 include several prominent political figures. Captain Amarinder Singh (INC), the former Chief Minister, is a significant candidate. Bhagwant Mann (AAP), the current Chief Minister, is expected to play a major role in the elections. Other notable figures include Sukhbir Singh Badal (SAD), contesting from Faridkot, and Harsimrat Kaur Badal (SAD), contesting from Bathinda. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also expected to field significant candidates in key constituencies.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the Indian National Congress (INC) achieved a significant victory in Punjab, winning 8 out of the 13 seats. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) secured 2 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) managed to win 1 seat. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also won 2 seats. The INC's strong performance underscored its dominance in Punjab's political landscape during that election cycle.
The scenario of the Lok Sabha elections may look very different in Punjab when compared to the previous general elections as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which won just one seat last time, stormed into power in the state winning 92 seats in the 117-member Assembly. Punjab has 13 Lok Sabha seats out of which four seats are reserved for the SC candidates. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the Congress in Punjab won eight of the 13 Lok Sabha seats while the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (SAD-BJP) alliance bagged four seats. Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) managed to win just one seat. In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, AAP won four seats, Congress bagged three, SAD four and the BJP two. AAP registered a massive win in the state assembly elections in 2022 with 92 seats to its kitty, followed by Congress at 18 seats. The grand old party saw a massive downfall compared to the 2017 state polls, in which it won 77 seats. BJP won two seats while SAD bagged four seats in the 2022 state elections. While BJP is looking to regain electoral support in the state, it may get hampered due to the recent farmers’ protest that started in February just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. The farmers are seeking legal guarantees for a minimum purchase price for all crops among other demands. Moreover, the BJP-led Haryana government's crackdown to intercept farmers from reaching Delhi as well as the death of farmer Shubhkaran Singh during clashes on the Punjab-Haryana border has further worsened the situation for the saffron party, which will be contesting without SAD this time. The AAP and Congress will look at capitalising on the existing situation.
