Bangalore Rural and South will vote in the General Elections on 26 April. The results will be announced with the rest of the nation on 4 June 2024.

Bangalore rural is home to approximately 24 lakh voters. The constituency was created after delimitation in 2008 and it voted for the first time in 2009. It is made up of 8 assembly seats- Kunigal, Anekal, Magadi, Ramanagaram, Kanakapura, Channapatna, Rajarajeshwarinagar, Bangalore South.

Siting MP from Bangalore Rural DK Suresh won the elections in 2019 as a Congress-JD(S) alliance candidate, defeating  BJP’s Ashwath Narayan Gowda.

In 2014, the won the Bengaluru Rural seat with DK Suresh defeating BJP’s Muniraju Gowda by nearly 2.31 lakh votes. Suresh polled approximately 6.52 lakh votes, with Gowda securing 4.21 lakh votes. The votes share for the Congress in 2014 for the Bengaluru Rural seat was 44.76% .

This year DK Suresh sees the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) C N Manjunath, a cardiologist and son-in-law of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda, as his opponent.

The urban constituency of Bangalore South covers Govindraj Nagar, Vijay Nagar, Basavanagudi, Chickpet, Padmanabha Nagar, Jayanagar, Bommanahalli and BTM Layout.

The main candidates in the fray for the upcoming General Elections are current sitting MP of the Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency and the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Tejasivi Surya. Surya won the 2019 elections by a margin of 27.87%, defeating Congress’s B.K. Hariprasad. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Ananth Kumar of the BJP won the seat, defeating Congress’s Nandan Nilekani.

This time, siting MP Tejasivi Surya takes on the Soumya Reddy, of the Indian National Congress. Reddy, the daughter of Karnataka Muzrai and Transport Minister, Ramalinga Reddy is General Secretary of All India Mahila Congress and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee. If she wins, Reddy will be the first woman MP from Bengaluru.
