In a remarkable example, a retired employee of the State Bank of India (SBI) has achieved an impressive milestone by qualifying for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) at the age of 64. Jay Kishore Pradhan, from Odisha, has not only defied societal norms but has also inspired many others with his dedication and perseverance.
Pradhan, who retired from SBI as a deputy manager, decided to pursue his long-held dream of becoming a doctor after his retirement. Despite facing numerous challenges, including the complexities of the NEET curriculum and the demands of family life, he remained steadfast in his goal.
To prepare for the exam, Pradhan enrolled in an online coaching program, where he diligently studied and honed his skills. His unwavering dedication and focus were instrumental in his success.
Having attempted the NEET exam after completing his intermediate studies but not succeeding, Pradhan found new motivation when he observed his twin daughters getting ready for the same test. The Supreme Court's 2019 ruling to lift the upper age restriction for NEET gave him a fresh opportunity to pursue his aspirations.
He qualified NEET examination in 2020 and secured admission into the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR).
Pradhan's achievement is a great example of perseverance and the fact that age should not be a barrier to achieving one's goals. His story is a source of inspiration for individuals of all ages, demonstrating that with dedication and hard work, anything is possible.
