A serious incident was narrowly prevented at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru late Sunday night after CISF personnel stopped a man from attacking two taxi drivers with a knife.

Police confirmed on Monday that the accused, identified as Sohail Ahmed, who works as a cab driver, has been arrested under the Arms Act and sent to judicial custody.

Ahmed was allegedly assaulted by taxi drivers Jagdish JR and Renu Kumar over a personal dispute on Nov 16, at around 1.30 am. Later, around 11.59 pm, Ahmed returned with a knife and tried to attack them.

The incident took place near the Terminal 1 arrival area. According to police, eyewitness accounts and CCTV footage showed Ahmed running towards the two taxi drivers while holding a long knife.

CISF personnel posted at the terminal reacted immediately. ASI/Executive Sunil Kumar and his team rushed towards the attacker, overpowered him and seized the knife before any harm could occur.

Their action ensured that passengers, airport staff and others in the area remained safe. After being restrained, Ahmed and others involved in the confrontation were handed over to the Kempegowda International Airport Police for further investigation.

The CISF later released CCTV footage of the incident on X (formerly Twitter), praising the team’s swift response. “Timely intervention by CISF averted a major crime at Bengaluru Airport. Around midnight on November 16, a man armed with a long metal knife charged at two taxi drivers at the T1 arrival area,” the CISF post said.

The post added that ASI Sunil Kumar and his team “acted swiftly, overpowered the attacker and recovered the knife, preventing any harm to passengers or staff”.

Airport police officials said a case under the Arms Act has been registered. The accused was produced in court and subsequently sent to judicial custody. Police are now looking into the cause of the quarrel and whether Ahmed had any previous criminal record.
