A shocking case of alleged medical negligence has come to light in Lucknow, where a woman unknowingly carried a pair of surgical scissors in her stomach for 17 years following a cesarean section. Sandhya Pandey underwent the C-section at 'She Medical Care' nursing home on February 28, 2008, during the delivery of her child.
However, she experienced persistent abdominal pain ever since, as detailed in a police complaint filed by her husband, Arvind Kumar Pandey, according to a report by India Today.
Despite consulting numerous doctors over the years, Sandhya’s condition showed little improvement. The startling discovery occurred recently when an X-ray at Lucknow Medical College, conducted as part of a routine medical check-up, revealed the scissors lodged in her abdomen.
Following this revelation, she was admitted to King George's Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow, where a complex surgery on March 26 successfully removed the foreign object.
KGMU spokesperson Sudhir Singh confirmed the details of the incident, stating that while the operation was challenging, it ultimately succeeded, and Sandhya has since been discharged and returned home.
In his complaint, Arvind Kumar Pandey pointed to Dr. Pushpa Jaiswal, the surgeon who performed the original cesarean section, as the one responsible for the oversight, urging authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
