A four-year-old boy who went missing in 2020 is now believed to have been buried beneath the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Dausa district. Police have started excavation work near the highway after fresh evidence pointed to the site as the possible burial spot.

The child, Tillu alias Prince, had disappeared from his village nearly six years ago. Despite repeated investigations, the case remained unsolved for years. Now, police suspect that he was allegedly murdered by his own uncle and aunt and buried at the construction site of the expressway when work was underway in 2020.

How did police reach to the breakthrough

The case saw several setbacks over the years, with as many as seven investigating officers being changed. Frustrated with the delay, a court recently directed the administration to recover the child’s body at any cost.

Acting on new leads, the Rajasthan Police began digging near the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. A Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) machine was brought from Delhi to assist in the search. The machine allegedly detected suspicious signals about 9 metres (30 feet) underground, NDTV reported.

Following this, two JCB machines have been digging at the site for the past three days, working nearly round the clock. So far, the team has dug up to 15 feet, but the child’s body has not yet been recovered.

Uncle and aunt confess crime

During the investigation, police arrested Prince’s uncle Anil and aunt Krishna. Officials say the couple allegedly murdered the child over a personal grudge and buried him near the highway construction site. Both have allegedly confessed during interrogation and have been sent to police custody until March 1, the NDTV report said.

According to family members, the accused had even joined the search for the missing child in 2020 to avoid suspicion. Prince’s eldest sister, Archana, said Anil often took her brother on motorcycle rides and appeared caring. “We never imagined he could do something like this,” she was quoted by NDTV as saying.

His brother Samar described Prince as a playful and mischievous child who would bring him broken toys to repair. He said Anil had accompanied him during the search operations as well, making the alleged betrayal even harder to accept.

Prince’s father, Jagmohan Bairwa, returned from Dubai on February 21 after learning about the fresh developments. "I'll be happy if my son is found, in whatever condition. I have full faith in the police and judiciary that I will finally get justice,” he was quoted by NDTV as saying.
