
The commercial run of India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train will begin from Thursday, January 22, promising faster, more comfortable overnight journeys. This new semi-high-speed train will be operated and maintained by the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) zone.
According to Indian Railways, train number 27576, the Kamakhya–Howrah Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, will start operations on January 22. Its return service, train number 27575, the Howrah–Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, will begin running from January 23. While the Kamakhya–Howrah train will run on all days except Wednesday, the Howrah–Kamakhya service will operate daily except Thursday.
Key stations on the route
During its journey between Howrah and Kamakhya, the sleeper Vande Bharat will stop at 13 stations, connecting important towns across West Bengal, Bihar and Assam. The stoppages include Bandel, Nabadwip Dham, Katwa, Azimganj, New Farakka, Malda Town, Aluabari Road, New Jalpaiguri, Jalpaiguri Road, New Cooch Behar, New Alipurduar, New Bongaigaon and Rangiya, before reaching Kamakhya.
Coach composition and facilities
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Express will have a total of 16 coaches. These include 11 AC 3-tier coaches, four AC 2-tier coaches and one AC First Class coach. Two train rakes will be deployed on the Howrah–Kamakhya–Howrah route to ensure smooth operations.
Timings and journey duration
Train number 27575 will depart from Howrah at 6.20 pm and reach Kamakhya at 8.20 am the next day. In the opposite direction, train number 27576 will leave Kamakhya at 6.15 pm and arrive in Howrah at 8.15 am the following morning. The total travel time for the entire route will be around 14 hours.
Ticket prices
The train offers three classes of accommodation. Fares are expected to range from around Rs 2,300 for 3AC, about Rs 3,000 for 2AC, and approximately Rs 3,600 for 1AC on a one-way journey.
