A seven-year-old Class 2 student of a private school in Panipat, Haryana, was allegedly hung upside down and beaten by the school driver on the orders of the principal.

According to the police, the incident took place on August 22. The boy, who had recently joined the school, was scolded by Principal Reena for not completing his homework.

The principal then allegedly instructed the driver, Ajay, to punish him. Acting on her directions, Ajay tied the boy’s feet to the window grill of his classroom and left him hanging upside down. He also slapped the child in front of other students.

Ajay also recorded videos of the act and uploaded them on social media. The footage soon went viral, showing the young boy crying helplessly in pain. The video reached the boy’s family, who immediately lodged a police complaint.

Following the complaint, police arrested both Principal Reena and driver Ajay. Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh said that Reena admitted to having tortured two more students in the past, and videos of those incidents were also recovered.

“A case has been registered against the two. They were produced in court and have been sent to police remand for further questioning,” Singh was quoted by The Indian Express as saying.

The Haryana Human Rights Commission, led by Justice (Retd) Lalit Batra, also took serious note of the matter. It has summoned senior district and education department officials to submit detailed reports.

Meanwhile, Panipat Deputy Commissioner Virender Dahiya has directed education officials to hold counselling sessions for students affected by the incident.
