In a landmark decision poised to redraw the commuter map of the National Capital Region (NCR), the Haryana government has given its approval to the final alignment of a new Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor. The 64-kilometre high-speed network will create a crucial transport arc, directly connecting the major urban centres of Gurugram, Faridabad, Noida and Greater Noida.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced the approval in the state assembly on Wednesday, outlining a project that promises to significantly enhance regional mobility and integrate multiple transit networks. Of the total length, a substantial 52-kilometre stretch will fall within Haryana’s jurisdiction.
“The final alignment of the Namo Bharat RRTS corridor connecting Gurugram to Faridabad as well as Noida-Greater Noida has been approved,” Chief Minister Saini stated in an official post on X. “Approximately 64 km long, this ambitious corridor will have a 52 km stretch in Haryana, which will give a new momentum to regional connectivity and provide passengers with the benefits of fast, safe and modern transportation facilities.”
The Gurugram-Faridabad link: A detailed look
The approved alignment will originate at the proposed Iffco Chowk RRTS station in Gurugram, which is itself part of the larger Delhi–Bawal corridor plan. From there, the corridor will traverse southward through the Sector-29 road network and continue along the median of Dr BR Ambedkar Marg.
A key turning point will be near the junction of Dr BR Ambedkar Marg and Rajesh Pilot Marg (Southern Peripheral Road), close to Sector 61 and the Golf Course Extension Road. Here, the alignment will veer eastward towards Ghata Chowk. Proceeding beyond Ghata Chowk, the rapid transit line will run along the Gurugram–Faridabad Road (MDR-137 or Gwal Pahari Road), establishing a direct, high-speed link between the two cities.
In Faridabad, the approved alignment incorporates enhancements to the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The corridor will enter the city near Sainik Colony and Badhkal Enclave, proceeding along Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg. A critical interchange will be established at Bata Chowk on National Highway-44, where the RRTS will integrate with the existing Delhi Metro’s Violet Line.
The alignment will then cross the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway and the Agra Canal before heading north and eventually crossing the Yamuna River to connect with Noida in Uttar Pradesh. Officials have confirmed that the stretch through Faridabad will remain elevated, particularly through the Bata Chowk area, to minimise disruption to existing traffic and urban infrastructure.
Seamless metro integration and airport connectivity
A cornerstone of the project is its multi-layered integration with existing and planned urban rail networks. The corridor is designed to connect seamlessly with the Delhi Metro, the existing Rapid Metro in Gurugram and the upcoming Gurugram Metro expansion.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, Union Minister of State and Gurugram MP Rao Inderjit Singh, the RRTS alignment in Gurugram will integrate with the proposed metro corridor between Golf Course Extension Road and Sector 5. To facilitate this, the Haryana government plans to extend the Gurugram Rapid Metro by approximately one kilometre to link it directly with the RRTS station at Sector 61.
The proposal includes the creation of two integrated RRTS-cum-metro stations in Gurugram, complemented by six additional metro-only stations. Similarly, Faridabad will see two integrated stations and eight metro-only stops under this unified operational model.
Perhaps the most significant feature for regional travellers is the potential for direct, high-speed connectivity between two major aviation hubs: the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in Delhi and the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar. An earlier DPR estimate suggested that the journey between IGI Airport’s Terminal 3 and Jewar Airport could be completed in approximately 60 to 70 minutes once the full corridor becomes operational.
On the Uttar Pradesh side, the alignment will run from Siddharth Vihar in Ghaziabad to the Noida International Airport, passing through key nodes like Knowledge Park 5, Surajpur and sectors in Yamuna City. This section will integrate with the operational Delhi–Meerut RRTS corridor and the Red Line and Aqua Line metros.
Officials confirmed that the DPR for the ambitious corridor is in its final stages and has been directed to be expedited. Once completed, the new RRTS corridor is expected to drastically ease road congestion across the NCR, strengthen economic linkages and transform daily commuting patterns for millions of office-goers traveling between Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad and Noida.
