The victim, identified as Gyarsi Amit Yadav, died on the spot after being struck by a speeding truck while travelling with her husband, Amit Yadav, on their motorcycle. The couple, originally from Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh but residing in Lonara near Nagpur for a decade, were en route to Karanpur when the accident occurred around noon.
With no immediate help forthcoming, a grief-stricken Amit resorted to strapping his wife’s body to their two-wheeler in a desperate bid to take her back to their native village. The video, which has since circulated widely on social media, shows the shocking scene, prompting widespread condemnation.
According to News18, highway police officers who filmed the viral footage initially signalled Amit to stop, but he continued riding, possibly fearing confrontation. He was eventually intercepted further along the route. The police later took custody of Gyarsi’s body and sent it for postmortem at Nagpur’s Mayo Hospital.
Eyewitnesses claimed that while bystanders initially ignored Amit’s pleas for help, some later attempted to intervene upon seeing him transporting the body, though by then, he refused to halt. The incident has sparked fierce debate over societal apathy and the need for better emergency response mechanisms in such situations.
